Sew an origami-inspired triangle bag with author, illustrator, and maker Sanae Ishida. This simple and stylish design has been around for generations in Japan, and you can sew it in under an hour, no pattern necessary. Sanae will teach you how you to calculate the size of your fabric pieces to customize the size of your bag, how to fold the fabric to create its signature triangle shape, and how to sew it all together with basic sewing machine skills. Here’s what you’ll need:
- 1 1/2 yards woven fabric for the bag (linen, cotton, cotton canvas)
- 1/4 yard fabric for the handle
- Sewing machine & coordinating thread
- Hand sewing needle
- Marking tool
- Fabric shears
- Small scissors
- Ruler
- Iron and ironing surface
- Pins
- Seam ripper
Fabric needed by size (all seam allowances are 1.5"):
- Large - 18.5" x 52.5" to make a 17" x 51" bag
- Medium - 15.5" x 43.5" to make a 14" x 42" bag
- Small - 11.5" x 31.5" to make a 10" x 30" bag

I very much enjoyed doing this class and sewing the medium size bag. It only took a few hours to hand sew (my choice). The instructions were clear and easy to follow. I already have plans to do another do a large size bag and probably some without handles for wrapping presents.
