Maya Donenfeld Ithaca, New York
Maya's distinct designs utilize sustainable resources and fibers, while weaving in elements from the natural world. She finds the imperfection of handmade endlessly inspiring and seeks out simple, and often humble, materials to transform into useful items of beauty. She celebrates this all in her book, Reinvention- Sewing with Rescued Materials (Wiley 2012). She encourages others to find their unique creative voice and gain confidence in their own capable hands through teaching workshops and writing for her natural living and green craft blog: maya*made. Her contributions to many other books and numerous magazines have reinforced what she's most passionate about: artfully recycling, repurposing and reinventing. Maya lives and plays with her two children, a cat and a handful of chickens down a country road, in an old farmhouse in the Fingerlakes region of New York.
