Prepare your quilt top for quilting at home with this workshop on assembling a quilt sandwich. You’ll start by planning your quilting designs, then learn how to mark simple straight lines as well as common quilting motifs such as feathers and cables. Next you will assemble the quilt sandwich, then Sue will show you how to pin baste your quilt. That step can be dreaded by quilters but it is a critical part of setting up for successful quilting, and Sue will guide you through the process with patience and expert tips.

  • safety pins
  • kwick klip (optional)
  • masking tape
  • stencils
  • patterns from book or PDF
  • quilting ruler
  • T-pins
  • hand sewing needle and thread
  • finished quilt top
  • batting
  • and backing fabric

So many small but excellent tips for this novice quilter. Checking the quilt corners are properly square, and hand-basting around the edge before machine-quilting -- so helpful!

I would not mind if the video was longer and included some trouble shooting, I do not expect my first five quilts to go as perfectly smoothly as this.

Very helpful for this beginner! The one thing I found lacking, is how to know if you've successfully pinned all three layers of the sandwich during the basting process.
