Natural body-care expert Arina of BellaCreme shines a little light on candle making. While demonstrating the ease of melting down soy wax and adding gorgeous aromatics, Arina shows you her two preferred ways to make candles. In this class you will make a decorative pillar candle in a silicone mold dappled with fresh flowers, a colorful layered votive dyed with natural colorants, and tiny tea lights. From setting up the wick to creating scent blends, these candles are simple to customize and are sure to bring a bit of light to your life.
Here’s what you’ll need:
- Bain marie or double boiler
- Spatula
- Stainless steel mesh strainer
- Kitchen scale
- Bowl
- Soy wax
- Hemp wick
- Candle wick tabs
- Wick holder or dowel / fork
- Wax adhesive candle putty
- Silicone candle molds - Arina uses 2.5", 2", and 1.5" pillar molds
- Pokey tool, like a chop stick
- 4-ounce transparent heat-resistant jar
- Butter knife (optional)
- For 2.5" x 2.5" pillar candle you'll need 6 ounces soy wax and a few fresh flower petals
- For 4-ounce votive candle and three tea lights you'll need 6 ounces soy wax in three 2 oz. portions, 1 tsp annatto seed, 1 oz lavender essential oil in two 0.5 oz portions, 1 tsp alkanet root, 0.5 oz geranium essential oil

Arina was precise and very clear on instructions. I feel I can perform the tasks with confidence and without confusion. Arina was also safety minded reminding us of dangers of hot wax, hot wax and cold glass, and tips on safely burning our candles.
