You don’t have to be an expert quilter to make this eye-catching quilt block. Modern quilter and fabric designer, Anna Maria Horner, shares how to create this folk-inspired flower block using floral print scraps. You will learn how to piece a background, fussy cut fabric, and reverse applique the flower and leaves using a sewing machine (no hand-stitching required). Make multiple Folk Flower blocks and piece them together however you’d like to make a quilt top that is blooming with color and texture.

- Fabrics (select three):
- 1/3-yard solid or tonal printed fabric for the foundation (enough to cut a 12 ½” x 12 ½” square)
- 1/3-yard tonal print for the stem and leaf appliques (Anna combines two different prints for her leaves)
- 1/3-yard floral print for the flower applique
- Pencil
- Scissors
- Rotary cutter and mat
- Quilting ruler (Anna suggests using a 12 ½” x 12 ½” gridded ruler and a long quilting ruler)
- Straight pins
- All-purpose thread to match your fabrics
- Sewing machine
- Iron and ironing surface
- Paper templates from PDF

I’ve been quilting for over 30 years and have been quilting reverse qpplique completely wrong!!! My method took forever to complete! Thank you for showing me how easy reverse appliqué can be! I also love mixing two fabrics for the leaves! How pretty!!! ?
