Professional artist and quilter Heidi Parkes believes that until a quilt has a hanging sleeve, it isn't truly finished. But even if you don't have professional aspirations of showing your work in a gallery, adding a proper sleeve is crucial for ensuring your quilt hangs nicely on the wall. In this class, Heidi guides you step-by-step through the process of preparing your quilt for hanging. She demonstrates precise measuring techniques and proper ironing methods that will allow the quilt to lay flat when hung. Then, use a nearly-invisible ladder stitch to attaching the sleeve. By the end of the class, you'll have the skills and knowledge needed to create a sturdy, professional-looking sleeve ensuring the quilt is supported properly for years to come.
Here’s what you’ll need:
- Non-stretchy fabric, 9.5" wide by your quilt's width
- Needle, Heidi likes the Dritz milliner's multi-pack
- Thread, Heidi is using DMC pearl size 8
- Scissors & snips
- Rotary cutter and cutting mat
- Straight pins
- Thimbles, Heidi uses pushing and pulling/gripping thimbles
- Fabric marker or Hera marker
- Quilting ruler
- Iron and ironing surface
- Sewing machine (optional)
