Upcycling fanatic, sewist, and toddler mom Faith Hale loves the transformation of secondhand materials into cute and tiny clothes for kids. Dressing your kids in clothes you’ve made is especially rewarding but dressing them in recycled clothes potentially destined for a landfill is even more so. Using well-fitting clothes as a template, Faith encourages you to forego making a pattern and demonstrates how to boldly approach your materials with courage and curiosity. In this class, begin by making leggings out of a long-sleeved shirt or sweater, using the existing hems as a shortcut to skip the hemming portion altogether. Next, make the coziest beanie out of a square of knit fabric taken from a shirt or sweater. Finally, make a vest out of a placemat, pillow sham, or other piece of quilted material, binding with bias tape. Once you get the hang of her techniques, a world of upcycling exploration awaits.

Paper quilling, or paper filigree, is a centuries-old art form popular during the Renaissance. You use a quilling tool - which was probably once made with a feather - to coil long, thin paper strips and bend and pinch those small coils into many different shapes. Then combine these shapes to create astonishingly intricate and mesmerizing pieces of art. Nikki Furlong is the artist behind Simply Quilled Designs, and she is passionate about sharing this little-known craft with you. In this daily practice, Nikki teaches you the basics of paper quilling: how to use a quilling tool, how to make shapes such as teardrops, petals, marquise, and scrolls, as well as her favorite gluing methods. Each little piece you make throughout the month will be part of a final project: a beautiful and colorful flower mandala. Plus, you'll get to make some smaller bonus projects with your extra shapes. Quilling is extremely versatile - all you really need is a tiny tool like a pin or paper clip, glue, and paper.

With basic origami techniques, Mia will guide you through constructing a four-layered lotus blossom. You can use it as a gift wrap embellishment, ornament, or even include it as part of your own rituals and celebrations by writing messages inside the folds, like wishes for friends or thoughtful intentions.

Book artist, mail artist, and educator Bel Mills takes great care when making even the smallest object. In this class she demonstrates just how much can be packed into a tiny book that features even tinier paper ephemera. As an avid upcycler, Bel loves to create art books using ordinary and cast-off paper products such as security envelopes and canceled stamps. This delicious visual snack, just a hair larger than a postage stamp, begins by folding an accordion book and then attaching a miniature cover. Along the way, make thoughtful design choices that lead the viewer on an adventure because every book is a journey, no matter how small.   

In this class, Courtney creates Halloween shadow puppets using the Cricut Explore cutting machine. These spooky Victorian silhouettes are fun to make and even more fun to put into action. Courtney shares tips for using different types of materials, like card stock and wood veneer, and how to add your own decorative flare using paint or ribbons.

Celebrate spooky season and unlock your inner crochet wizardry with seven Halloween-inspired appliqués: a ghost, pumpkin, spider, and a bat, a skull, a potion bottle and a witch's hat. Twinkie Chan is a crochet designer, author, and believer in the crafterlife. In this class, you'll learn a bewitching array of stitches and techniques, from single crochet up to treble crochet, working in rows and rounds, making an invisible join (or perhaps a phantom join?), and an otherworldly way to change yarn colors. You can use your appliqués for an infinite number of fun projects, like enchanting garlands, spine-tingling party invitations, and the most haunting Halloween treat bags. Knit a timeless cabled sweater with designer, technical editor, and author Tian Connaughton. She fell in love with working with paper because it's so versatile, unpretentious, and accessible. Join Corrie for a foliage-filled month of making four lifelike paper plants to decorate your home: Boston ivy, an oak branch, smooth sumac, and the begonia "fall fashion." These are a few of Corrie's favorite autumnal examples because of the striking, colorful display that the real varieties gift us in the fall. You'll work on one plant at a time and complete a simple step each day, starting with making your own cardboard templates with Corrie's PDFs. Then, learn how to transform paper into leaves with painting, cutting, folding, and hand-drawn details. To turn your leaves into branches, Corrie teaches you how to use floral wire and floral tape.  You'll be able to apply these techniques to just about any plant you love, in any colorway, and for any season. Creating paper plants is a beautiful and meditative way to capture a seasonal moment that can be so fleeting and to keep it for as long as paper lasts.  

If you have experience crocheting, you know that crocheted fabric stretches more lengthwise than vertically The sideways construction of this ribbed sock takes advantage of that aspect for a stretchy and extra comfortable fit. Instructor Cal Patch is a clothing designer and author, and she demonstrates how her modular sock design can magically turn rectangular panels into a perfectly fitting sock. Begin with crocheting the body of the sock in ribbed rows, then work a heel in short rows, and finish with the toe in the round and a ribbed cuff. Cal teaches you how to properly measure your foot and where to adjust your crochet stitches for a sock that is unique to you. You can use any weight of yarn depending on the thickness of the fabric you prefer. There are so many fun yarn and color combinations to explore that once you crochet one sock, you won't want to stop. 

When it comes to knit projects, headbands are relatively quick to knit and are, as Faith's mom calls her when she's being helpful, "useful as well as decorative." In this in-depth class, Creativebug staff artist Faith Hale knits three headbands, one in a rib stitch finished with a twist, one featuring honeycomb cables, and a delicate lace pattern that ties in the back. Along the way you'll learn special techniques like seaming, working an i-cord, a provisional cast-on, and reading a lace chart.
